recently, on a sunday, we spent the evening in the ER with brooklyn. we are all about sharing the wealth, why not throw a little more cash IHC's way?! she fell from my desk in the office to the hard wood floor below. no one saw her fall, we only heard it. with older kids in the home now, they move much quicker than i do. it has everything to do with them getting older and faster, not me getting older and slower. anyway, i wasn't able to see what happened exactly. all we knew was that she had been standing on top of the desk and had attempted to get down all by herself.
i checked her for signs of a concussion, but when she complained of a stomach ache i thought wierd. it was totally unsettling to me. but she had just eaten her weight in grapes, so i was like "the child has just eaten her weight in grapes". i cradled her and although am totally aware of sleep and concussions- i let her nap. i figured if her stomach hurt when she woke up, i would address it then.
2 hours later, she woke up. as i went to change her diaper and stretch her legs out to put her pj's on, she wimpered in pain. that's when we decided to pay IHC a visit.

she needed x-rays and a CT with contrast. this meant she had to have an IV. BOO! they brought 3 nurses in to hold her down. i knew this was completely unnecessary. but rather than say something, i let them figure it out on their own. they all commented on her lying perfectly still. i knew they would. they always do. the last time brooklyn got stuck, she thanked them when they finished. that's my girl. sniff.
the x-rays showed no broken bones or cracked ribs. what a blessing and relief. i snapped the photo while the tech wasn't looking. i am a rule breaker like that. then we were on to the CT scan. this was by far was the hardest part . . . it makes loud noises and she had to go it alone. it can be scary for brooklyn. we cried together. i keep thinking one day i will be the strong mom and not cry when my daughter cries. at least she is still too young to notice my tears.
when it was all said and done . . . the doctor said she had bruised her insides. her spleen to be exact. sure enough as we were leaving the hospital, the evidence of how she fell began to emerge. she must have hit the floor on the left side because the whole left side of her body began to bruise from her left eye, down to her hip and knee. she was given crayons, suckers and juice for the road. oh and two holes in her arm from a failed attempt at an IV. grrrrrrrrrrr!

As always you're the mom to the rescue! Love you and I love that little girl.
She is such an angel! Poor baby! I hope she's feeling better! It's so hard to see your babies hurt, emotionally and physically!
you and hospitals have become quite the bff's these past few years. UGH.
glad the bones stayed in tact!

Better safe than sorry, I'm so happy you took her in! Seeing that swelling later would have freaked me out had I not known the cause.
You're such a good mom Bri. You're just what that cute little Brooklyn needs.
I'm so glad she's alright. She's one tough cookie, takes after her momma!
