if ever there are empty shelves in here
it is either because of braden
or berkeley
or brooklyn
if there is one thing that i will spend money on, it is books. and we have lots of them. growing up, i loved to read. my mom used to buy books that came with cassette tapes and records that we would listen to over and over again. the rescuers was one of my favorites. it was fun to follow along with the words before i could ever read. when it was time to turn the page i would hear BEEP, it is time to turn the page. maybe my love for reading stemmed from there.
when i got older, i would ride my bike to a place on the corner called the book rack. it was a used book store. i could buy used books for cheap, read and trade my books in for new books i hadn't read. i secretly hoped that my passion for reading would flow through to my children. we have built traditions around reading and book giving and i hope my kids choose to carry those traditions into their families when they leave home.
if not, there will be no christmas presents after the age of 18. note it.
recently we cleaned braden's nightstand and i snapped that picture. it inspired this post. i had taken the picture of brooklyn's "project" after coming home to her pile of books everyday after work for months. it was honestly then that i realized maybe my kids love reading more than i do. because now that i work 24/7, and my time is limited, i have traded reading for pleasure to reading about children's brains and dieting to self help and gluten.
either way most surfaces have barfed books. so every now and then when the shelves in the library are looking a little bare. i gotta clean up floors. clear nightstands and declutter the pottery barn wall rack in order to hide the dust on those library shelves.

I love, love, love this post! I LOVE to read! Our bookshelves constantly look like that, thanks to KayCee, and then she goes in to Carter's room and empties his shelves! Carter loves to read, and KayCee loves to be read, too. The gift of books is a beautiful thing!!

I love to read too and we have lots of books at our house too. Rick bought me a Sony Reader after we moved... he didn't want to move all my books if we ever move again. When we go to the library we fill the bag and then have to leave otherwise we could come home with 1/2 the children's section.
I think that dust belongs on the library shelf, but not on the books. I think it doesn't matter what you read about. Once a reader, always a reader. I also think there is not a better sight than a night stand stacked with books.

We LOVE reading around here. I currently have about 42 books from the Lehi library and if I'm ever missing an eldest son I just look for a pair of feet sticking out from a random place as he lays around, engrossed in his new favorite read.
Book orders are magical for my kids, and read-a-thons and story time are typical occurrences around our house. glad to see you enjoy it as much as we do! It's so good for our kids. :)
to be HONEST i have never been really into reading... except the people magazine & US magazine. does that count????
with that said i have hoped & prayed my kids would love to read. i have bought them so many books. Cayden looooves to read. Marlee on the other hand... she will be a magazine reader to i think?? i can only hope for the other two!! ;)
i am the same way and i really love childrens books. they are all of the good memories of being young for me. i hope my two little ones get it. my oldest one has read the twilight series about a dozen times and that's it. no other reading for pleasure for her. it kills me.
i totally had all those disney records. i was sick a lot as a kid and i listened to those things over and over. i knew every word and where every little twinkly ding was to tell me to turn the page. i'd give anything if i still had those.
