surrounded by love

i'm not great at decorating. and i rarely buy things unless they serve a purpose or have some sort of meaning to me. when i finally had a home of my own that i could decorate and paint without anyone's permission i felt overwhelmed. and then i decided to simply surround myself with the things that i love. i am super sentimental . . . so just about everything in my home has a story.

my berry wreath ~ floods my mind with memories from my laurel advisor and friend vicki lorimer. she was present at a very needful time in my life. she was a great example of all things good. she taught me about the gospel, paid me to babysit and let me stay in her home while my parents were away. she had a picture in her kitchen of a basket with red berries like this. i spent many a meal at her kitchen table staring at that picture. my spot at the dining table faces my berry wreath. i am reminded of her daily.

my watering can ~ anything garden reminds me of my mom. she loves to garden. whenever i go home she alwas walks me along her stone path in her backyard and points out all of the trees and flowers she has planted and grown. i have memories of my grammy taking my mom on walks in her backyard when we would come to visit pointing out her flowers in her garden. one day i will do the same with my daughters.

my fleur de lis ~ i spent half of my life in louisiana. i knew when i had a home of my own i wanted my memories of louisiana to be there too. we chose the fleur de lis. it is french for lilly flower. a lilly is a symbol of purity, innocence and beauty. fleur de lis' are everywhere in louisiana. and louisiana is everywhere throughout my home.

my square picture ~ a just because gift from brady after we moved into our new home. it holds the quote: it's not the home i love but the life that is lived here.

my clock ~ there are 3 clocks in my kitchen alone. they are everywhere to remind me that life is made up of moments. some of which we may only experience once. moments that may never return. they are here and then they are gone.

my tea pot ~ my grammy loves tea. she drinks it every morning. this tea pot lived the majority of its life on my grammy's hutch in her dining room. when my grandpa sheets died, grammy went to live with my parents in texas. this was my gift from her home. it sits on a pedestal for a reason.

i am sure i could learn a few things about design. but what i always wanted was to make my house a home. and by surrounding myself with meaningful things i filled my home with love.

That's why I married you. I couldn't put you on a shelf. So I put you on a pedestal! I love you through and through.

cute as always... i don't know how you put together so much stuff! Your entire house is filled and decorated to the 9 perfectly. I would just look at it all and give up. I am so simplistic i guess my brain can operate as well as yours. This comes as no surprise to me, and i am sure to you as well. you have seen my no frill/pathetically decorated houses.... every single one of them!

dude...where did you get that man? seriously, i think he's amazing and i've never even met him!

i think that you can always tell when you walk into a home and the things there are loved like yours. there's a certain homeyness to it that isn't in some of the most beautifully decorated homes out there!:D

I still want to come see your beautiful home :( I loved decorating my house when we moved in, and as the year goes by, the decorations change a little bit. Especially the artwork that KayCee has so proudly drawn on the walls with her Crayolas! :) My niece said it best when she said, "Your walls are...colorful!" :)
