the everyday

life is so uncertain.  this morning as i was driving the girls to school, i passed the crossing guard and waived back at him as i usually do.  it was then that i realized how good it felt that i could always count on mr. crossing guard waving good morning.  it got me thinking about the things in my life that may be out of my control, but i can count on.  like-

brooklyn always coming to my bedside in the night asking:  "can i get in?"
baylor texting me daily for permission to jam or hang with friends after school.
berkeley's light glowing beneath her bedroom door every morning cause she is the first one awake.
brady kissing me goodbye whenever he leaves the house without fail.
braden blacking out his windows to play xbox and kill zombies.

sometimes it feels good to be able to count on routines.  even though routines change and time passes, sometimes the familiar certainty is what makes me feel alive.

we have shared so many of those little routine things over the years. It was nice today to revisit one. Things i can count on:
Hailey counting to 7 every time I give her a shot.
Porter asking me what we are going to do to tomorrow when I tuck him in.
Caleb giving me monster hugs upon entering the door after school.
And Parenthood on Tuesday nights. Oh wait... crap.
