this week is your first at scout camp. not day camp, the real deal. i got up early to make you breakfast and you reminded me that this would be the longest you had ever been away from home alone. i am certain this will be harder for me than it is for you. but, i knew the day would come where you would be too big to carry, too big to sit on my lap, and too big to need a chaperone. so, for now, i will hang on to the fact that you are not big enough to drive, not big enough to date, and not big enough to get a job.
the day i brought you home from the hospital, we went straight to mimi and papas. it was a saturday. papa was out mowing, mimi was inside cleaning. the whole house stopped when we pulled in the driveway. we all gathered in the family room and set your jaundiced little self in the window so that the sunlight could dance on your newborn face. it was then that your mimi said something to me that i have never forgotten. something i think of as you wear my socks, out grow your shoes and tower over me with height. she said, "bri, take a good look at him now, because tomorrow he will graduate high school." she was right.
but for today, you go to scout camp.

i refuse to believe the validity of this post. Bay just entered kindergarten and learned to read. he still plays with toys and would never ever go to scout camp without his mama!
time truly is flying...
I am not looking foward to this day!!! All of our kids really are growing up before our eyes. It makes me believe all those people that told me to slow down and enjoy my family before they are gone. I hope he has a great time at camp.
You are scaring me to death talking like this. They really do grow up this quick don't they. I am not ready for that! I am excited for him though. He is having the time of his life!!!
What a fun age! He is gonna come back with so many fun memories.... and new tricks he's learned from his peers :)
