dear burke,
this morning you held brooklyn's hand and walked her to the kindergarten playground like you do everyday. you took her backpack and hung it on the fence so she could play until it was time to line up. you usually say goodbye and head to the front of the building but today you walked through the fence with her. i was curious so i pulled around and parked to watch the two of you.
you followed her to the back of the playground to where the swings sit. you leaned down to pick her up and sat her on the swing. you pulled her back and let her go. i sat there and watched you swing her. you both were smiling. she doesn't know how to pull herself onto the swings yet. she is still learning the art of swinging. but you know how much she loves to swing. unbeknownst to me, the two of you must have planned this sister time this morning. i had a mother moment.
you will have them to one day. it is when you want to burn an image into your memory forever because your heart is about to burst. you feel overcome with such gratitude for the lives you have been entrusted with and realize that time passes quickly.
i told myself that my memory won't last forever and so today i would write and tell you that you will make an incredible mother one day. i know this because of the way you care so incredibly for your sweet sister brooklyn.
love,
mom
