last weekend, dad, you and i hiked up around silver lake and up to lake solitude together. you hit the trail hard reminding me of a younger version of myself off running up ahead. the weather was a perfect 74 degrees. at every fork in the trail, you turned and hollered back at us anxious to know which way to go! every year, we seem to hit the same trails over and over, this year we decided to hike to places we have never seen. so, today you were in charge, it was your day, this was what you chose to do. i was not suprised. it's in your blood. need i remind you at the age of two you hiked up to dog lake all by yourself. that hike was 5 miles round trip! today, there weren't many other kids on the trail. mostly adults who would ask as they passed, how much longer? which you would reply, not far now!
it was great to be with just you. you kept us smiling when we should have been crying (being so out of shape)! i am not sure what it is, but nature has its way of making me reflect and i got to thinking...i hope years from now when you come to a fork in the road and you aren't quite sure which way to go, you will think to ask your dad or i. and i hope when others have questions, you continue to give encouraging answers even if the reality is not so encouraging. oh and i hope you are always up ahead of the crowd, paving your own way, leaving your mark first!
